FAQ for Sailing Lake Pepin Private Sailing Charters
Q: What is your cancellation policy? What if there’s bad weather?
A: For cancellations made 48 hours or more in advance a full refund will be issued. Non-hazardous weather related cancellations made less than 48 hours in advance are subject to a $25 cancellation fee.
We will not operate in hazardous weather conditions such as heavy rain, thick fog, high winds(20+ knots) or thunder storms. However, no guarantees can be made that every day will be perfectly sunny. We will operate as usual in overcast conditions, light fog and in intermittent light rain. The final decision on weather related cancellations rests with the captain and reservations should be considered upheld unless you speak with the Captain directly over the phone. If weather cancels your reservation we will make every effort to reschedule for another day. Otherwise, a full refund will be issued.
All refunds will be at the sole discretion of Lake City Sailing LLC.
Q: How early should we show up?
A: We recommend your party arrive 15-20 minutes before your scheduled departure time to go over safety and orientation. Leave yourself some margin for traffic or parking related delays, pre-departure comfort stops. Private charters arriving late must still return at the regularly scheduled time to allow for the next group. There will be no refunds for those arriving late.
Q: What should I bring? Wear?
A: The only things you need for your charter are your personal items (hat, sunglasses, sunscreen – not the spray kind please and your camera). It is usually a little cooler on the water, so a windbreaker or sweatshirt might be nice. Please wear boat shoes, non-scuffing white-soled sneakers or relax and sail barefoot. Black soled shoes leave marks on the boat that are very difficult to remove.
Q: May food and drink be brought onboard?
A: Yes, feel free to bring your own food and beverages. Additionally, we recommend finger foods (sandwiches, cheese and crackers, etc) as they are easiest to eat on a boat. Foods with sauces or salsa will stain clothing and upholstery so are not recommended. For adults over 21, reasonable amounts of beer and wine (please no red wine) are allowed (canned beverages are best).
Any excessive use of alcohol will result in the immediate termination of the trip without exception. Safety comes first.
Q: How many people can we bring in our group?
A: Our private sailing charters are restricted to 6 passengers by US Coast Guard regulation. Children do count as passengers and towards the 6 passenger limit.
Q: Are there any age restrictions or mobility restrictions?
A: Private charters have no age restrictions, however kids under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. If you are bringing young children (under 7) you may wish to consider a two hour charter sail.
Those with mobility issues must be able to climb aboard the sailboat from the dock and down into the vessel’s cockpit. We will assist in any way we can to ensure those with mobility issues are comfortable.
Q: Do you provide life jackets for children?
A: Yes, we have life jackets for all shapes and sizes (even infants). While we recommend that everybody wear a life jacket onboard, by law, only those 9 and younger have to wear one at all times. Your boat will have enough Type I life jackets on board for everybody in your group. Younger children are recommended to bring their own life jacket, provided it is Coast Guard approved (no pool floaties). We provide Class 1 type life preservers which are very safe, but at the cost of comfort.
Q: Are pets allowed onboard?
A: We do not allow pets onboard.
